Definition: This indicator tracks the number of persons employed in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, including full-time, part-time, seasonal, and temporary workers, as well as family members involved in operations.

Policy Area: Agriculture
Purpose: To measure the contribution of agriculture to the regional employment base and inform strategic planning. Agriculture is a vital sector significantly contributing to the Region’s economic prosperity and competitiveness. Enhancing agri-food and value-added agriculture sectors is expected to substantially increase employment within the Region.
Current Trends: As this is a newly established KPI, the 2021 Stats Canada – Census of Agriculture data serves as the baseline. Future assessments will track changes and trends over time.
