Definition: This indicator assesses the variety and distribution of housing structure types across the Region, including single-detached homes and other housing forms.

Policy Area: Communities & Housing
Purpose: To track the diversity of housing options to reflect the Region’s capacity to accommodate various lifestyles and economic conditions, supporting community development and sustainability.
Current Trends: From 2011 to 2021, there has been a gradual decline in single-detached housing, accompanied by an increase in multi-unit housing types.
Target: The Region aspires to have at least 50% of all housing in forms other than single-detached by 2044..
This target will start on a region-wide scale, understanding that each municipality’s contribution to this KPI will be unique and may contribute to the target at different levels. Local specific targets should be explored in the comprehensive ten-year update of the growth plan.
