Definition: This KPI tracks the total area of land within the Region that has been redesignated back to agricultural use from other uses, such as residential development, industrial use, or resource extraction.

Data Source: Local government land use records / Regional planning documents / Applications for land redesignation.

Updated / Frequency: New KPI. It is anticipated to be updated annually

Policy Area: Agriculture

Purpose: To ensure the conservation of agricultural land, which is fundamental to the economic growth and food security of the Region. This KPI assesses the effectiveness of policies aimed at restoring agricultural land, providing insights into policy performance and land use trends.

Current Trends: Year-over-year assessments of the status of prime agricultural lands will identify trends in their respective redesignation. Initial reports and analyses are pending.
