Policy Area: Integration of Land Use & Infrastructure
Purpose: To measure how the Region manages urban sprawl through responsible growth practices. Residential Intensification tracks the effectiveness of regional policies aimed at increasing density within built-up urban areas to optimize existing infrastructure and minimize the expansion of the development footprint.
Current Trends: The percentage of new dwelling units in built-up areas has been increasing in the Region. Most municipalities reflect a positive response to policies encouraging urban intensification.
