Mayor William Choy elected Chair of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board!

Mayor Choy of the Town of Stony Plain assumes Board leadership role from outgoing Chair, Dr. Jodi Abbott, effective September 12, 2020.

 

Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB) has elected Mayor William Choy as Chair of the Board. In accordance with Board policy, Mayor Choy was elected the fifth Chair by secret ballot from among the representatives of the participating municipalities at the August 13, 2020 Regular Board Meeting. Choy currently serves as the Mayor of the Town of Stony Plain, first elected to Town Council in 2007 and has served as Mayor since 2012. Choy brings a strong record of regional leadership to the role having previously served as Vice Chair of the EMRB, and as a member of the MRSP and IRTMP Task Forces.

Outgoing Chair Dr. Jodi Abbott joined the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board in 2017. During her time, Dr Abbott transitioned various aspects of the former Capital Region Board, as well as supported the launch of Edmonton Global, the development of the shared investment for shared benefit concept, regional land use priorities, and the approval of a regional services plan. Dr. Abbott’s leadership brought a steady hand to the Board to address challenges and seek out opportunities for the benefit of the Region.
