EMRB Celebrates 15 Years of Transformative Growth and Collaboration

Strategically Positioned to Welcome Another Million Residents and almost 500,000 New Jobs.

Edmonton, AB — The Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB) celebrates its 15-year milestone as a regional collaborator and convener. Throughout its history, the EMRB has strived to be an ambitious trailblazer focused on maximizing long-term regional land use planning and development to foster economic prosperity and an increased quality of life.

“As we reflect on 15 years of accomplishments, we are inspired by the power of unity, strategic planning, and shared vision. Our journey is a testament to the shared commitment of our members and the incredible potential and opportunities that emerge when we work together.” Mayor William Choy, EMRB Board Chair

With its 13 member municipalities, decision-makers work together to build together what none of them could build alone — a globally competitive Region that offers an unparalleled quality of life and a wealth of economic opportunities. It’s no surprise that the Region now boasts an impressive $109 billion GDP and a population of more than 1.5 million, all while standing as the fifth-largest economy in Canada.

“For the past 15 years, the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board has played an important role in the economic growth and prosperity of the greater Edmonton Region. I look forward to working with the board in the weeks and months ahead on how we can further unlock the potential of the Edmonton Region.” Honourable Ric McIver, Minister of Municipal Affairs

As the EMRB looks to the next 15 years and beyond, the Region is preparing to welcome another one million residents and almost 500,000 new jobs by 2050. Backed by a strategically and pragmatically designed growth plan, the EMRB and its leadership are confident that the Region is ready to capitalize on its boundless potential in the next chapter.

“The next 15 years of the EMRB are going to be transformative, and it’s exciting to know we’re well positioned for success. By working in partnership with communities, the provincial government, local business leaders and industry, the EMRB will continue carving out its place as an economic leader and engine for our province and country.” Karen Wichuk, EMRB CEO
